ABOUT ME
I am a software developer, with full-stack web developer experience with a passion for clean designs and straightforward code. I have experience both leading people in and out of tech, mentoring developers, and architecting systems. My projects range from infrastructure to CLI applications to eCommerce websites.
However, I didn't start in tech. My first career was in law enforcement. I served as a police officer for a short time before learning to program. I am a husband, father, and follower of Jesus.
EXPERIENCE
Web Development Manager
Adam’s Specialty Products LLC – Neenah, WI
2019 – Present
As the team lead, I was responsible for distilling the business needs, technical requirements, constraints, and the end-user goals into a product roadmap. My primary task was to oversee the migration of three large ecommerce websites from Magento 1 to WooCommerce.
A few of my achievements include:
- Moved our dependency management system for our WordPress websites from the WordPress plugin and theme system to Composer to allow for more fine-tuned dependency management and a clearer bill of materials for each site.
- Managed the interviewing and hiring of additional developers.
- Oversaw the development of three highly custom ecommerce websites built with WordPress and WooCommerce.
Full Stack Web Developer
CairnTek LLC – Kaukauna, WI
2013 – 2019
As the only full-stack developer and only employee of CairnTek, I have extensive experience both developing websites and overseeing website development projects. From the initial idea to the deployment, I guided each project to its completion.
A few of my achievements include:
- Engineered a technical rewrite of a client’s structured data and content, resulting in an 83% increase in Google organic search visibility for branded queries.
- Migrated a legacy PHP 4 codebase with PEAR dependencies running on a mainframe on premises to a blazing fast PHP 7 application using native PHP 7 functionality on a cloud server. Upon completion, tests showed on average a 32% decrease in site load speed.
- Refactored a web application codebase to utilize memory, disk, and browser caching to reduce database round trips and the number of requests. This reduced the average page load time by 92% (6.0 seconds to 0.5 seconds).
- Spearheaded the successful completion of over 50 individual web development projects for clients around the world with each final product exceeding expectations.
